The Bobbin Girl

The Bobbin Girl - Emily Arnold McCully Ten year old Rebecca works in a mill to help support her family. Recounts the details of her long day, 4:30am to 7pm. It seems that the women all have 'Lowell Fever,' a strong desire to read, learn and expand their minds. The money they earn at the mill is good and allows them pursue their intellectual goals. Goes into some detail about the harsh working conditions of the mill, and the fear of some women to stand up against it. Author's note includes facts that inspired this story.
